KOS Awards

In 1988,  KOS created two awards to recognize the efforts of current members and to honor three of our past presidents.  These awards are:

The Clara Fanelli Award is presented to the member who has accumulated the most points for non-miniature plants entered in the ‘Show and Tell’ competition at our monthly meetings.  In 1994, two classes were created for this award – Hobby and Commercial.   In 1996, this was changed back to Hobby class only.  In 1998 this award was again divided to two classes  – Hobby Beginner (less than 10 plants and less than 5 years as a grower) and Hobby Advanced.  The same winner cannot win this award for two consecutive years.  The winner of this award for 2009 is:  Ria Malito.  (We did not have any beginners in 2009.)

The Henrietta and Wilbur Japs Award is presented to the member who, in the opinion of the Board of Directors,  has given the most outstanding service to KOS during the year.  The winner of this award for 2009 is Mark and Terri Walters.

In 1998, a third award was created to honor another past president -  The Jim Topmiller Traveling Trophy.   This award is given to the member who has accumulated the most points for Miniature plants entered in the ‘Show and Tell’ competition at our monthly meetings.  This trophy was donated by member Mrs. Shirley Topmiller.   Winner of this award in 2009 was Nancy Bramble.
