KOS at the 2020 Home Garden and Remodeling Show

Open for business! (Jan, Catherine, Jim, Heide and Suzanne)

On February 28 to March 1, 2020, the Kentucky Orchid Society staffed a booth at the Home and Garden Show from which we sold orchids, potting material, books and pots. For three full days, we educated a large number of visitors about the wonder of orchids by one on one discussion, formal presentations and small demonstrations on repotting held in the booth itself. We were able to network with other gardening enthusiasts of all types and arranged presentations for later in the year at other botanical events. We enrolled new members and refreshed some old relationships. It was a busy and productive show. The funds we generated will help us bring nationally and internationally known speakers who can increase our knowledge of these fascinating plants!

Enjoy our pictures of the event.

Heide helps with set-up

Many thanks to the large number of members who helped in so many ways in this endeavor. Under the guidance of chairman Sal Locasio, the planning committee organized the many “moving parts” of this show. Besides the committee, many of the society members helped in so many ways-unpacking orchids, cleaning, watering and pricing the plants and setting up the booth. There were several shifts a day of workers who staffed the booth and talked with our visitors. Additionally, there were those who gave the presentations and others who helped dismantle our display. Tanya Schroeder, our master baker, created a beautiful orchid cake for the raffle held during the weekend. Other raffle prizes included lovely plants from Nanz and Kraft, Oberer’s Flower Shop and Fresh Market. Lowe’s donated mulch for us to sell at the event. We have many to thank and I am sure that I have missed someone. Whoever you may be, let me say thank you!
