Terry Walters

Many of you will remember Terry, Walters, a long time member of the KOS, who passed away unexpectedly on Christmas Day 2020 at her home in Florida. Terry and her husband, Mark, were quite active in the society until they moved to Florida a few years ago. Terry organized the clerks for the judging at the annual show and sale for several years. Mark was KOS president in 2013.

Terry had a special fondness for orchids and an orchid has been named in her honor (see below). A donation will be made by the Kentucky Orchid Society to the American Orchid Society in Terry’s honor.

Teresa Vinson Walters, age 69, of Merritt Island, Florida passed away suddenly at her home Christmas morning 2020. Terry was born September 20, 1951 in Louisville Kentucky.

She was a special lady full of kindness and compassion. She loved trying new recipes. She could take the most ordinary ingredients and make the most extraordinary dinners. She loved shoes and kitchen gadgets, trips to the beach, and a Friday afternoon fish sandwich at a restaurant by the water.

She loved UK football and basketball. She was active at St. James Episcopal Church in the Alter Guild, and when she moved to Florida with her husband Mark in 2016, she continued her church activity at St. David’s by the Sea, Cocoa Beach, Florida, where she served on the Outreach and Stewardship committees.

Terry graduated from Shelbyville High School, Kentucky in 1969. She received a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Kentucky and a Master’s degree from Western Kentucky University. She taught school for 15 years in Simpson County, Kentucky and 20 years in Shelby County, Kentucky.

She is also survived by her husband’s family, Mary Walters Wolford (John) of Louisville, Melinda Clark Walters of Louisville; Matthew McKee Walters (Sharon) of Shelbyville; and Margaret Walters Heston (Jerry), of Louisville; and by her many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Buford Edward Vinson and Faye Summers Martin; by her aunt and uncle, Louise and Jim Weakley; and by her mother-in-law, Pauline Clark Walters.

A celebration of her life will be 12:00 Noon Thursday January 7, 2021 at the Kingdom House at 1857 Midland Trail Suite # 2 Shelbyville, KY with Bro. Don Burley officiating.
